FAQs

What is Yoga?

The power of yoga is that it operates on all levels – mental, physical and spiritual. We know the three are connected and that a change in one can effect a change in the others but the power of yoga is that it works with all three at once.

What should I expect?

Yoga Psychology Services:

Wear workout clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in. Socks and shoes are not worn during class. It’s best not to eat a big meal at least 2-3 hours before class. Avoid drinking too much water during class, but remember to hydrate afterwards. While some of our classes are drop-in, some require you to preregister to reserve a spot in the class. Before class begins, let the instructor know about anything that might affect your practice, such as injuries, pregnancy, recent illness, chronic health conditions, anxiety, depression, migraines, etc.

Upon Arrival:

If it’s your very first time coming to the studio, please arrive about 10 minutes early to check in to class and get acquainted with the studio. Healthwise Studio has changing rooms as well as cubby space for your clothing and personal items. Shoes and coats and other personal items can be stored on the shelves in the entry area. These shelve are not secure so we do not recommend bringing any valuables into the studio but if you must, please take your valuables with you into your class. Please be sure to turn off your cell phone.

Why should we take note of Mindfulness?

The number of people dealing with depression, anxiety and stress worldwide are staggering. The World Health Organization estimates that about one in four people will be affected by some sort of mental or neurological disorder at some point in their lives. With stats like this, chances are that if you aren’t directly affected by a mental illness, someone you love will be.

The need for an effective way to manage our mental health has never been more upon us. With this in mind, science and major health organizations including the National Institute of Mental Health – the largest scientific, research focussed mental health organization in the world - have turned to age-old techniques to explore what they have to offer us in modern times. It seems they have plenty.

How is Healthwise Studio different from a yoga studio?

Founded by psychologists, Healthwise Studio offers a fresh approach to self-care, one that brings focus to the connection of your mind, body and spirit through the practice of yoga and mindfulness.

What should I bring?

Healthwise Studio has Yoga mats available for a rental fee of $2.00. You are encouraged to bring your own mat if you have one.  Any other Yoga/Mindfulness props (blocks, straps) you will need to participate in a class are made available at no additional cost. We do not have showers but do have restrooms available for anyone who needs to change clothes or freshen up after class.

If you are coming for meditation, we do have some meditation cushions available but cannot guarantee one to everyone.

What should I wear?

If you are taking a class that involves yoga, please wear comfortable and breathable athletic clothes that are easy to move in. You do not need shoes.

Is there a place where I can change and store my things during class?

Healthwise Studio has changing rooms as well as cubby space for your clothing, shoes, other and personal items during class. We recommend you leave any valuables at home/work or bring them into the room with you for the duration of class as the storage areas are not secure.

Does Healthwise Studio have showers?

We do not currently offer showers but restrooms are available for changing clothes and freshening up.
